How is the club structured?
Club members take on one of three different roles: designers, programmers, and artists, and form groups to make a game together
What's the deal with club roles?
Designers handle the game’s writing, level design, etc. Artists create visual assets for the game. Programmers implement the group’s ideas in Unity. Don’t worry about being stuck in only one role though, you can help out in multiple aspects of the game, even if you only have one main role.
When does the club meet?
This club DOES NOT have standard meeting times. With few exceptions, each group meets independently of the club, so it’s important to check in with your group to know when your meetings will take place.
What sort of projects does the club do?
The group members of each group propose ideas and vote on a project idea to work on. However, the size and scope of projects will be limited by several factors, including but not limited to: time, group member availability, and group member capabilities. So you shouldn’t expect to make the next GTA or Smash Bros.
What should I know how to do and what skill level should I have?
Designers and Artists of all skill levels are welcome and do not need any prior experience. Programmers will need to be familiar with object-oriented programming and should have finished CMPSC 132 or have equivalent knowledge on object-oriented programming. If you do not have this experience, you can still participate in projects, just not as a programmer. Please be aware that no matter what role you take on, you MUST be a Penn State student in order to join this club.
Are there any club dues?
No, PSU Game Design/Development Club is free to join. There are no dues.
