Please feel free to look around and see what interests you!
What We Do
We bring students together from all sorts of backgrounds to form small groups that work on games over the school year! Students take on different roles within their groups, each contributing in their own way. Any and all skill levels are welcome! As long as you have the interest, there will always be a way to get involved and help out!
How is the Club Structured?
Our club splits students into different roles and then groups students from all different roles into groups that work together to make a game. There are three main roles that club members can fill when participating in a group. Each role has its own responsibilities, but don’t worry about being stuck in just one role! You can help out in multiple areas even if you have just one role.
Here is a short synopsis on each of the three main groups.
Designer
Designers help the group figure out various aspects of the game after the concept is decided on. If the game has a story, it’s the Designer’s job to write it. If there are characters, the Designers work alongside the Artists to design them. When working on game, Designers collaborate with the Programmers to design the levels and gameplay. The Designer is the easiest and most accessible role of the three, and the most recommended role to start out with.
Artist
Do you have an affinity for making assets? A passion for pixel art? Do you enjoy designing characters and worlds? Then the Artist role is perfect for you! Artists design assets for the game such as sprites, character portraits, backgrounds, and models. Any art style is fine, so no need to worry about that! No prior experience is necessary, but familiarity with digital art does go a long way.
Programmer
Programmers take the ideas from the Designers and the assets from the Artists and bring them to life in the game. This role is a bit more intensive than the other two, so unlike the other roles, a bit of prior knowledge with object-oriented programming is required to excel as a programmer in the club. Don’t let the requirement of prior knowledge intimidate you however! Chances are, you are studying Computer Science or Computer Engineering, and are taking or have already taken the necessary classes to meet this prior knowledge requirement!
See Upcoming Events!
We don’t spend all our time working on games. Want to simply hang out with other students and chill? Check out our events calendar for opportunities to meet and have fun with other students!
